Pete Seeger performs – with restrictions – at Sanders Theater in Cambridge.

May 18, 1961

After Seeger was invited to perform by the Harvard Student Council, Harvard president Nathan Pusey announced that he would not allow Seeger to perform due to his conviction for refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Commission. Pusey subsequently allows Seeger to perform, but only after he agrees to confine himself to singing songs and and not speaking about political topics between songs.
